Why do Jakabaring clubs order an ice bath rather than buying ice?

Arithmetic, mostly. A rowing squad coming off the course, a football side after an afternoon session or a physiotherapy room seeing patients all day needs cold water at a known temperature, several times a day, every day. Bagged ice means somebody drives for it each morning, the temperature drifts through the session and the cost never stops. A chiller is bought once and holds eight to fifteen degrees continuously.

It also changes what the water is like. Melting ice gives a tub that starts too cold and finishes too warm, which makes any recovery protocol guesswork. A plunge chiller with a thermostat lets a coach set a target, hold it through a whole squad and record the same conditions the following week. Tub, chiller and keeping an ice bath clean for shared use

Each tub is made from larch or thermowood on an insulated frame, with a food-grade liner sitting behind the timber. A well-sealed shell and a close-fitting lid hold the cold far better than a bigger compressor would, and they keep the monthly bill down. For 250-350 litres in a household a half horsepower unit is ample; from 400 litres upward, or with squads cycling through, we specify a full horsepower.

Shared use raises the hygiene bar. A filter pump with ozone or ultraviolet runs continuously, the tub has a drain and the surround falls away from it, and club installations get a shorter service interval and a rinse point beside the steps. Outdoors, the unit goes on a raised plinth under cover, with room for air to move around it. A chiller alone, fitted to a tub you already own, is an indicative IDR 25-55 million.

What does an ice bath in Palembang need in power, water and space?

Less power than people assume. The compressor pulls roughly 0.5 to 1 kW, so a 2,200 VA connection carries the whole installation and no PLN application is needed for the plunge - a useful point in Bukit Besar and Talang Semut, where raising the connection is awkward. It still gets its own circuit and an ELCB, since a compressor and a pump added to an existing household ring will trip a breaker sooner or later.

For space, allow the tub plus a metre for steps and a rinse point, with the unit no more than a few metres away. Allow one to two weeks on site in Jakabaring, Talang Kelapa or Ilir Barat I; the carpentry is quick and the plumbing is not.
