A finished room, not a kit arriving in flat boxes: bolted wall panels, an aspen bench, a tempered-glass door, a stone heater with controller, light and ventilation grilles, all delivered and connected for you. Cabins run roughly 1x1 m to 1.5x1.2 m, seat one or two, and reach working temperature within half an hour. Delivery, connection, a ventilation check and a first heat-up with you watching all sit inside the quoted price, so there is no manual to decode and no missing bracket to track down afterward.

The trade-off is fit. A prefab cabin will not follow an odd-shaped corner, seat six people or carry a glazed wall - for any of that, a custom sauna room at IDR 60-120 million is the answer instead. What a prefab buys you is speed, a price that never needs a construction budget, and the option to unbolt the whole thing and take it along when you move.

Why prefab suits the older, narrower streets particularly well

This is exactly where prefab construction earns its place in Palembang. Heritage houses around Talang Semut, the lanes behind Kambang Iwak and older stretches of Bukit Besar sit down alleys no lorry can enter, and their tall, shuttered rooms look wonderful but are awkward to build inside from scratch. Panels sized to clear a standard doorway solve both problems at once - they come off a small truck at the end of the lane and go in by hand from there.

New cluster houses in Talang Kelapa and Alang-Alang Lebar face the opposite problem: access is easy, but nobody wants to sacrifice a spare bedroom for good. A cabin that unbolts in an afternoon suits a household that has not yet decided what that room will eventually become.

Power draw, and the distance a prefab cabin can travel

Running at 2.2-3.6 kW, a prefab sauna sits comfortably on a 3,500-5,500 VA connection, which most cluster houses already carry, so there is no PLN application and no upgrade fee involved. Houses stuck on 2,200 VA are the exception, and there the honest answer is an infrared cabin at 1.7-2.4 kW instead. Either way, we still fit a dedicated breaker and an ELCB and run heat-resistant cable to the heater rather than sharing a socket circuit with the air conditioning.
