Temperatures here sit between 23 and 32 degrees year-round, humidity runs 75 to 89 per cent, and rainfall can reach two to three metres annually - so newcomers reasonably wonder why anyone would want to add more heat. The honest answer is that daily life happens indoors under air conditioning: an office near Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, a car crossing the Ampera bridge, a bedroom cooled all night. None of that makes anyone sweat properly. Twenty minutes at 70 to 90 degrees followed by water at eight to fifteen manages what the outdoor climate, oddly, never quite does.
Then comes the haze. Between June and September, smoke settles over the city, the morning walkers vanish from Kambang Iwak, and outdoor exercise pauses for weeks on end. Homes already fitted with a hot room and a cold tub simply carry on through that stretch rather than waiting out the season, and it is no coincidence that a good share of our enquiries land during exactly those months.
Housing stock here splits two ways. Newer clusters around Talang Kelapa, Alang-Alang Lebar and Jakabaring carry modern wiring, 5,500 to 7,700 VA and a spare room that converts without fuss. Heritage houses in Talang Semut and Bukit Besar sit at the other extreme: tall ceilings and shuttered windows, 2,200 to 4,400 VA, and lanes too tight for a lorry to enter. Four things we confirm before the first board goes up
A 6-9 kW heater calls for 7,700-11,000 VA on its own breaker with an ELCB, run in heat-resistant SiHF rather than standard building cable. Any PLN upgrade is the owner's cost, though we handle the paperwork for it.
Panel, 50 mm rockwool, an aluminium foil vapour barrier, a 20 mm ventilation gap, then the cedar lining. Skip the foil or the gap and a cabin in this climate turns mouldy within two to three years.
Interior linings in western red cedar, Scandinavian spruce or thermowood; benches in aspen or abachi, both gentle on bare skin. Ulin and bengkirai stay outside, reserved for decking.
A guard rail around the heater, 8 mm tempered glass, separate intake and extract vents, and a heat test run together with the owner before we hand over the keys.

Common questions from Palembang customers
Does the haze season change how people use a sauna here?
It does, and usually for the better. Once the June to September haze settles in and outdoor training stops, households with a hot room and a cold tub keep their routine going indoors instead of skipping it for three months. A session at 70-90 degrees followed by a plunge at eight to fifteen degrees becomes the whole workout rather than an add-on.
Where does the water for an ice bath come from, and does it need treating?
Either mains or well water works once it is filtered. Palembang's mains supply draws from the Musi and its clarity shifts with the season, while well water in some districts runs hard. Every tub we build gets sediment filtration and ozone before the water is judged fit to sit in, so it stays consistent year-round.
How much does a chiller actually add to the electricity bill?
Less than most people expect. The compressor pulls roughly 0.5-1 kW, so even a 2,200 VA connection carries it comfortably. Left running around the clock, the indicative figure is IDR 300,000-700,000 a month; a 6 kW sauna used four or five times a week runs closer to IDR 200,000-500,000. Can a sports club or academy be a standing client rather than a one-off install?
Yes, and that is a large share of our work around Jakabaring. Football clubs, rowing squads and training academies typically order a higher-capacity tub with a scheduled service plan rather than a single installation left untouched, so it stays hygienic under daily rotation through a squad.
Do you still service Prabumulih, Lubuklinggau, Pagaralam or Bangka?
We do. Prabumulih is an hour and a half to two hours by toll road, Lubuklinggau and Pagaralam six to eight hours overland, and Pangkalpinang by roro ferry from Tanjung Api-Api. What happens if something goes wrong months after installation?
The cabin structure and our installation work carry a two-year warranty, while Harvia, Sawo and Tylo heaters keep their own one to two year manufacturer cover, with spare parts held on our own shelf in Ilir Barat I. Our technicians attend in person rather than waiting on a part from Java.
